what types of glass is good for shower doors

These links take you on down this page: FLAT GLASS, BENT TEMPERED, SANBLASTED, LAMINATED

TYPES OF FLAT MONOLITHIC GLASS --GOOD for SHOWER DOORS
(click the title) Monolithic means not laminated or insulated, just like annealed means not tempered, and atheist means not religious.

HEAVY GLASS SHOWER DOORS use 3/8" and 1/2" glass (mainly.) These include Clear, Starphire (Low Iron), Gray, Bronze, and a few Rolled Patterns such as Rain, Glue Chip and Barok. The rolled patterns look somewhat like Slumped Glass but the pattern repeats.

For more photos of the flat glass go to our Gallery/Types of Glass Page.

1/4" thick tempered glass can be used for shower doors. We have hinges that are just like the ones for 3/8" and 1/2" but these are smaller. There are far more choices of glass in 1/4" thickness. For instance you can use half silvered mirror so that the shower is a mirror when the light is off. You can use greylite 14, which is almost black. They have eliminated a lot of colors but green is still available and blue reflective and great many patterns. These will all probably cost more than a heavy glass shower.
3/4" thick tempered glass which can be used for Shower Doors as well as furniture and Entrance Doors and Glass Railings. 3/4" Glass comes in Clear and, with a little searching we can also find 3/4" Starphire. Requires custom made pivots and hinges for shower doors.
Also rare is 1" thick glass, mainly for table tops.

BENT TEMPERED GLASS--GOOD for SHOWER DOORS

Can be used for Shower Doors, Furniture, and Architecture.
Bent Laminated is also available but not suitable for Showers.
What about Bent, Slumped, Bronze Tempered, with an irregular top edge?
We can do that, I think.

SANDBLASTED AND SATIN GLASS--GOOD for SHOWER DOORS
Sandblasted tempered glass shower doors

Satin Glass is acid etched and looks like sandblasted but comes in crates of 3/8" and 1/2" thicknesses for shower doors. It also comes in 1/4" and maybe 1/8" for cabinets, windows, doors, and whatever. Some people say Satin Glass doesn't show fingerprints as much as sandblasted. But we always have our sandblasted glass coated with Clear Shield or some other polymer..

SandBlasted can be done in geometric or artistic designs. Price is very competitive from AJJ Glass Ltd. Sandblasting is much cheaper.

For Photos see AJJ Glass Gallery.

CUSTOM LAMINATED GLASS--NOT GOOD FOR SHOWER DOORS
custom laminated glass

Two layers of glass with exotic vinyl interlayer. Laminated glass is not suitable for Shower Doors. If the edge gets wet it will delaminate. It is great for windows and doors. Minimum thickness 1/4"
